Queensland Tilt Train – Australia

The Queensland tilt trains are operated by Queensland Rail on long distance passenger rail services between Brisbane and Cairns. One of the features of these trains is an extensive food & beverage service, with catering cars and a trolley service.

This service trolleys utilised are like those used by airlines, and whilst not being wheeled up and down the trains, are stored in a refrigerated “trolley garage” within the catering cars. As part of a fleet upgrade programme, Noske-Kaeser Rail & Vehicle were engaged by Downer EDi Rail in 2015 to design, manufacture and supply new superior refrigeration systems for this purpose.

With some constraints due to this being an existing space envelope, the refrigeration systems were a bespoke design, which was developed and fully type tested, prior to production and commissioning on-board.
